Introducing Liz Mott…a White Lake Mom

Howdy!

My name is Liz Mott, and I am a 33-year-old mom and wife. I am part of the full-time, working mom world. My husband Tom and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary August 11. We started out with three fur babies, then added on two kids, and we just recently bought our first mini-van, so I guess you could say we have really established ourselves as parents.

My Other Half

My husband, Tom, was born and raised in Michigan but, for a short time, moved to D.C. in early 2016. He and I had met for the first time right before he moved. I was married at the time, but in the summer of 2016, I went through a very abrupt and unexpected divorce. That particular time became very dark…and very boozy. I can tell you with 100% certainty that connecting with Tom at the tail end of that phase pulled me from rock bottom to insurmountable heights. I fell for him fast. And hard.

Tom and I work for the same company, and as luck would have it, in late summer of 2016, I made a trip out to D.C., which is when we reconnected. When he caught wind of my impending divorce, he immediately started making moves, and we began officially dating in November 2016. He then moved back to Michigan in March 2017 and moved in with me; we were engaged in July 2017, and I also became pregnant with our first son the same month. In April 2018, our son Jack was born, and we were married in August 2018. Our second son, Luke, was born this August. We didn’t waste any time! He drives me crazy like any husband would, yet he is one of my favorite things.

My Fur Babies

We have one cat and two dogs. Chauncey will be 15 years old in October and is a Maine Coon. Star and Daisy are Border Collie mix sisters and turned nine years old this past May. They were my first loves, and also my trial run for what was to come. I’m eternally grateful for their grace and their unwavering acceptance of every piece of me, including my smothering love, crippling worry, and blissful new beginnings. In fact, they were completely on board with my now two tiny humans who fell in love with them so swiftly; they endure being crawled over, pulled on, and smacked at, and they accept these pieces of me unconditionally. It really leaves me in constant awe and wonder of what I did to deserve them.

My Tiny Humans

AKA: my biggest accomplishment and greatest adventure.

Jack was born in April 2018 and is 16 months old. He is the sweetest kid! Bashful, go with the flow, and overall truly joyful; he truly is his father’s son. I question what exactly this kid even got from me. He is my “easy” baby, the baby that sleeps through the night, eats any and everything, loves taking baths, has the best laugh, and is currently learning new animal sounds and words, learning how to eat with a fork and spoon, and really enjoys going to the zoo and picking out all of the natural birds that you could also find in our own backyard. He is one of my favorite things.

Luke was just born. So while we are still getting to know him, I will tell you what my prediction is: this kid will be my wild child. I predict he will be feistier, fearless, and generally a little more challenging. This one, this one will be his mother’s child. He is one of my favorite things.

A Little About Me

I would tell you a list of hobbies, but I’m choosing to tell you, instead, about personal obsessions (mainly because I can’t think of hobbies). I think hobbies can change based on circumstance and time. Rather, there is a definitive list of things I absolutely love: Halloween, fall, and everything having to do with apple orchards, owls, day drinking, naps, candles, wine, donuts, lotion, and planning. I’m a big planner.

I can be funny. And I definitely don’t like tense situations, so I tend to try to make jokes more often than not to make myself feel more comfortable, which is often since I have anxiety, so tense situations or being in a worried state is almost constant for me. Even though I am a big planner, I am not always the best executor. I tend to procrastinate on things at times. For example, I thought I would start the hobby of making quilts, which is something my grandmother did my entire childhood, and to honor her, this was my bright idea. Remember what I said about hobbies? I’ve been working on my first and only quilt since 2009. Check back in another 10 years and…maybe…I will be halfway done.
