Wixom: Detroit Moms’ Favorite Metro Area Cities

It’s hard for me to believe, but my family and I have already lived in Wixom for a few years. It honestly feels like just yesterday that we closed the door on our old house for the last time, and started making our current house a home. Although Wixom is a relatively small city (really, I looked it up, and it’s only 9.367 square miles), it, and some of the surrounding areas, have lots to offer!

3 FAVORITE RESTAURANTS

Wixom Station | 49115 Pontiac Trail, Wixom 248-859-2882
This was one of the first sit-down restaurants that we went to when we moved to Wixom. I’m a fan of their chicken avocado club as well as their tortellini.

Sarokis Pizzeria| 2167 N Wixom Rd, Wixom 248-669-5959
We affectionately call this place “gas station pizza” because it is located in a gas station.  There is no place to sit, so it is carry out only, but we love the pizza they make! I remember ordering some of the first day we moved. We had a folding table set up, and it was so great to eat a yummy pizza.

Benstein Grille2435 Benstein Rd, Commerce Twp 248-624-4100
While I haven’t been here, everyone I know says it’s a great restaurant. I know the first thing I’ll be trying is the Benstein Lobster Mac when we go.

3 FAVORITE OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Wixom Habitat | 1199 N Wixom Rd, Wixom
Known to my kids as “The Wild Place,” this is a very small nature trail. I love it because it is never crowded and it makes a great backdrop for taking family pictures.

Mercer Beach | E Walled Lake Dr and Pontiac Tr, Walled Lake
We recently discovered this small beach located in Walled Lake. I loved that it was small enough I wasn’t worried about losing sight of my kids, but big enough that families weren’t on top of each other. There aren’t any public restrooms available, so be sure to use a facility before coming.

Dodge Park | 4380 S Commerce Rd, Commerce Charter Twp
This park has lots to offer. While the soccer fields and walking paths are great, the newly remodeled playground is amazing. Scarlet’s Playground was built to be an inclusive, barrier-free playground, so that children of all abilities can play together.

FAVORITE PLACE FOR SWEET TREATS

Dairy Twist Cafe |  2660 Benstein Rd, Walled Lake 248-624-4401
This place is always hopping in the summer! My girls love getting ice cream from here.  Currently, it is drive-through only.

FAVORITE COFFEE SHOP

Trail’s Edge Cafe | 49348 Pontiac Trail, Wixom
If you are looking for a different flavor coffee, be sure to check them out! While you can get a basic black cup of coffee, there are also choices like Raspberry Streusel Cafe and S’mores Cafe Mocha. They even have a great selection of bubble tea.

FAVORITE PLACE FOR AN ADULT BEVERAGE

Benstein Liquor1050 Benstein Rd, Walled Lake 248-993-0606
My husband and I don’t go out that often. However, we do like to have date nights at home. When we are looking for adult beverage, we can find what we want here.
