I’m Amanda, and honestly, owning my own business is the best thing ever. I started as a nurse, but after having my daughter, I took a break and ended up diving into something totally different. Now, my sister and I run Harmony Social Solutions, a social media management and virtual assistance business. I also run Fun in Farmington, a blog and social media platform all about the great things to do in and around Farmington and Farmington Hills.

When I’m not working or adventuring with my kids, I’m probably reading. I’ll pick up some nonfiction or personal development here and there, but fiction–especially romance–is my happy place. I also love traveling with my husband and kids–exploring new places, trying local food, and soaking in different cultures is something I’ll never get tired of. Being outside is another favorite, usually hiking or just getting some fresh air. It always clears my head and makes me feel grounded.
One thing I’m really good at? Emotional intelligence. Between working as a nurse and a social worker, I’ve mastered the art of not taking things personally. Most of the time, when someone gives you a hard time, it’s really about them–not you.
Putting Myself First
To take care of myself, I make time for regular workouts, prioritize sleep, enjoy quality time with friends and family, and pursue hobbies like book clubs. While I could always use more time for self-care, I recognize that life has its seasons, and some are harder than others–but I know they’re temporary, and things will shift again.
My Family
I’m a mix of stay-at-home mom and business owner, though I’m rarely at home! My son is eight and my daughter is two, and together with my husband, they’re my absolute favorite people. My oldest goes to a hybrid school, so he’s part-time in-person and part-time homeschooled–which means I get to be with them a lot. When we’re not working on school stuff, we’re out learning and having fun–museums, playgrounds, the zoo, you name it! Balancing being a mom and running a business isn’t always easy, but I try to roll with the punches.
Where I’m From + Where I Am Now
I grew up in Milford and now live in Farmington. I really enjoy living in Michigan (except maybe in January and February!)–there’s just something special about those long summer days. Some of my favorite spots in the Farmington area are Heritage Park with its beautiful hiking and great kids’ programs, and Downtown Farmington for the coffee shops, bookstore, restaurants, Farmer’s Market, and ice skating. During the summer, we spend a lot of time at our swim club. Farmington is a really nice place to raise kids.
A Defining Moment of Motherhood
I don’t think I could pick just one defining moment of motherhood. It’s the feeling of carrying your baby for nine months, having them placed on your chest for the first time, or when they first smile at you. Then there’s that look they give you, like you’re their whole world—because you are. Of course, there’s also the first time you mess up as a parent, or when they tell you that you hurt their feelings. When they giggle at something silly you say and start saying “I love you!” back. And even when they still want to sit on your lap, even as they get bigger. All of those moments—good and hard—are what make it all so meaningful.
The Importance of Community in Motherhood
When my mom died of cancer a few years ago, I lost a big support system and realized just how important community is. Motherhood can be isolating, and while it can be hard to reach out and try something new, having people who understand and support you makes all the difference. For me, finding that community has been a game changer, and I hope to encourage other moms to take that step. It’s so much easier when you’re not facing it alone.
My Intentions at Detroit Mom
As a contributor, I hope to remind other moms that they’re not alone. I want to share fun activities to do with kids while encouraging learning, growth, and cultural experiences. Motherhood can be exhausting, so I aim to help make it more enjoyable. I plan to support the women in the Detroit Mom community by connecting with them, attending events, and listening to their stories. I applied to join the team because I admire the community and want to be part of it. I’m excited to grow as a writer, as a mom, and as an individual along the way.
