Hello! My name is Kim Ledford, and I am a new Detroit Mom Social Media and Writing Contributor. Those who know me best know that I have a positive outlook on life and that I am a natural entertainer. Growing up I was always in dance, and in high school I joined marching band and acted in drama club. My love for entertaining has since translated to adulthood, as I love to be creative, still love to dance, am an avid concert-goer, and always love to laugh.
I am passionate about Michigan, all things Metro Detroit, and love to support and promote local businesses. Recently, I left my job at a top business management consulting firm and am now focused on pursing a recent interest in digital marketing and brand development. I truly believe you should surround yourself with people who support you, in an environment where you can advocate for yourself and develop your skills. Life is too short to live out someone else’s dream.
Putting Myself First
Over the past few years it has been harder to carve out time for myself and self-care. After having my son, my attention has been focused on him. More recently however, I feel as though the new mom fog has started to lift. I’m remembering who I am and what I need to thrive. A few things I do now to put myself first are: try to communicate with my husband when I need help or alone time, allow myself to watch TV and movies judgment-free, and stay connected with friends. Lots of time spent with my therapist has helped me remember who I am and the importance of staying in tune with what I need to be my “best self” for my family.
Family Life
I have been married to my husband, Clay, for six years now. We were neighbors in college and met at Western Michigan University. We have a rescue beagle who is about twelve, and really is the best dog. In 2019 we had our son, Mason, and he is the sweetest little boy ever. Mason is charismatic, energetic, and has the greatest sense of humor. He has the biggest heart and lets his family and all his stuffed animals know he loves them every day. Most recently, he has become a Disney/Pixar movie buff. He likes to reenact scenes and also sing and dance along to whatever we are watching. (I would say he must get that from me, but his Dad was actually an extra in a movie that came out on HBO Max this past year!)
Living in Metro-Detroit
I grew up in Port Huron, MI, and have since loved to be close to water. I currently live in Warren, and have enjoyed its central proximity to all things Metro Detroit. My favorite thing about living in this area is the variety of landscape and diversity we have. We can have that big city feel and then country all in the same day, with beautiful waterways all throughout. Some of my absolute favorite places to visit are the DIA in Detroit and the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron. I also love any nature sanctuary or hiking trail that my Dad wants to take me on.
Detroit Mom Contribution
I am most excited to promote my favorite businesses, fashion/style for local moms and littles, and uplifting advice for new moms. I hope that my material is motivating and a positive source of confidence for others!
Kim you sound like you have the drive and determination to become a successful entrepreneur. Best of luck to you.
