Detroit Mom’s Travel Series: Charlevoix

One of my most-treasured family vacations was a couple of summers ago when we traveled up north to Charlevoix. My grandfather had passed away two months prior, and our family really needed some time together. While the vacation was planned before he had passed away, it absolutely fell into the calendar at just the right time.

My siblings came from out of state, and together with our parents, we drove up north and enjoyed a much-needed week away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. We were able to stay on the water, the little cousins ran around and played together, and each day was restful and easy. Charlevoix is truly a magical place. So, if you’re headed that way this summer, I wanted to give some ideas of what to do while you’re there!

The view outside of our condo. Absolutely beautiful!

9:00-10:00 a.m. | That French Place | 212 Bridge Street, Charlevoix, (231) 437-6037
This place is SO cute inside. Do yourself a favor and order the nutella and banana crepe. You won’t be disappointed. Your kids will love the sweet treats, too!

10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. | Young State Park | 2280 Boyne City Road, Boyne City, (231) 582-7523
Jump in the car and head to the beach! Plan to swim and stay for lunch (bring your own, or grab something in town on the way!). There are also bathrooms located in the campground that’s a short walk from the beach.

2:30-4:30 p.m. | Depot Beach Park | 307 Chicago Ave., Charlevoix, (231) 547-3253
After spending the morning in the sun, relax in the shade and let the kids play at the park. Bring a blanket so the whole family can rest for a bit!

5:00-6:30 p.m. | Bridge Street Tap Room | 202 Bridge Street, Charlevoix, (231) 437-3466
The younger kids can build their own pizza, or order off the kid’s menu!

This park is just a short drive from Charlevoix. The kids absolutely loved it when we went!

We didn’t make it out for a date night when we were in Charlevoix, but this restaurant looks good!

  • A lot of restaurants are walkable once you’re downtown. Definitely bring a stroller or wagon for the kids.
  • Don’t forget baby wipes for the ice cream mess!
