:: About Me ::
Hello, Metro Detroit Moms! I am so excited to be a part of this community and look forward to connecting with you! My name is Christina Taylor and I am a long-time Michigan resident, but I spent a good portion of my childhood moving around the country. I currently live in Sterling Heights but still consider Rochester Hills my hometown. I am a proud graduate of Rochester High (class of ’01), spent some great years in Mt. Pleasant at Central Michigan, and ultimately graduated from Grand Valley State University.
My husband Mike and I met in college and have been married for over 10 years. When it came time to purchase our first house we were unsure where to settle, but unlike many of our friends, we knew we wanted to stay in Metro Detroit. Having never lived EOD (east of Dequindre — it’s a Rochester thing) I was very unsure and unfamiliar with Macomb County. We started our house hunt in early 2008 and found a home in Sterling Heights. It was a foreclosure and needed endless work, but we fell in love. I still remember the tree lined street and kids playing outside and thinking that this is my home and where I want to start my family.
::Babies and Beyond ::
Our family really started in 2010 with the birth of our daughter, Clara. She is a precocious eight-year old and everything I could have ever wanted in a daughter. She is smart, funny, kind, and the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen. My son Hudson came next. Hud is six years old and is the sweetest boy you could ever imagine. He is at that perfect little-guy age where he manages to be loving, gentle, messy, and gross — all at the same time. My third (and final!) is our surprise two-year old, Teddy. We thought we were all set with a boy and girl but it seems the universe had other plans. Teddy completes our party of five and he couldn’t be more loved by his big sister and brother.
Before starting my adventure in parenting I worked a few years in the public relations and marketing field. I loved what I did but always knew I felt a calling to be a stay-at-home mom if the opportunity was available. There are days I cherish… and days I would rather forget; but I wouldn’t trade this for anything else in the world. For me, the key to maintaining balance is to stay busy and involved. I’ve always loved community mom and tot classes, and have met some of my dearest friends through them. The classes are a great opportunity to meet moms who have kids in the same stages as mine and who undoubtably share the same ups and downs as me. It is also a great way to stay connected with the community.
:: Around Town ::
To say we are connected with our community is an understatement, less than a year after moving to Sterling Heights my husband was elected to the city council. For the last four years he has served as mayor. Having this experience has given me a special appreciation for all the hard work that happens behind the scenes to make communities amazing. Every Thursday during the the summer you can find us at the Sterling Heights Farmers Market and Music in the Park having dinner, playing in the park, and enjoying time with friends. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of our city and to help play a role in shaping the direction of our community together with my husband.
:: My Favorite Things ::
When I’m not spending time with my family, you can find me enjoying a broadway show, crafting, eating fried chicken, watching Gilmore Girls, enjoying some vodka and water, and traveling — preferably all at the same time! I’m a long-time Broadway in Detroit subscriber and heading downtown for a play and a great meal is one of my favorite things to do. I also need to go on a cruise at least once a year with my daughter. My favorite room in the house is my craft room where I’m putting together plans for family with one of my (many) planners while watching Gilmore Girls for the millionth time.
Being a stay-at-home mom, wife of a politician and most importantly, a strong, independent woman with plans of her own, there is never a dull moment in my life. I can’t want to share it with you and connect with this great community of Metro-Detroit moms!
