Introducing Lindsay El-Yussif: A Birmingham Mom

Introducing Lindsay!

:: Down with Detroit ::

Hey party people (’cause there ain’t no party like a Detroit party #amiright), I’m so excited to be here! Go grab yourself a Faygo Redpop (or a glass of wine), and let’s get to know one another a little bit more.

With the exception of my college years spent in Kalamazoo (Go Broncos!), and a quick stint in the suburbs of Washington D.C. while my husband, Eddie, an Orthopedic Surgeon, completed a fellowship in Hip and Knee Replacement, I’ve lived in Metro-Detroit my entire life. The people are the nicest, the weather is crazy, and I love this Great Lake State.

My absolute favorite part about growing up in the Mitten has always been the beautiful four seasons (though, admittedly, I would probably be fine with a white Christmas and calling it Winter; I’m a Summer girl through, and through). There’s nothing like the explosion of bright, fiery colors and the crunch of leaves underfoot in the Fall, or the shimmering snowfalls that hush and blanket the town during Winter. Come Spring, the sighting of a red bellied robin hopping around quickly ushers in the return of tree buds and tulips. And Summer, oh sweet summertime, when the Great Lakes glisten and cool breezes calm the hot sunshine. You will never find a more perfect Summer than right here in Michigan – even Eddie, the East Coast native, agrees!

:: My Life ::

“Whatever you do, don’t fall in love with a Michigan girl, you’ll end up marrying her, and you’ll never leave,” a friend warned a dashing East Coaster named Eddie. Well folks, here we are, almost nine years later, with five years of marriage under our belts, residing in Birmingham, and raising our sweet, funny and energetic little boy, Nicholas.

We attempt to make it back to Northern Virginia every couple of months to hug on my in-laws, to stuff ourselves with the BEST Chaldean cuisine you’ll ever taste (my Mother-in-Law’s grape leaves deserve their own post), and to watch our little guy soak up all of the attention from his cousins. And, when the cold Michigan air has us chilled to the bone, we love to escape to warmer waters for some Vitamin D and palm tree sightings. As much as we love to travel, nothing beats that feeling of rest and rejuvenation as those wheels touch down at DTW.

When I’m not chasing a toddler or chasing my wanderlust, I love a good run on my treadmill, guacamole and a skinny margarita, iced coffee, hashtags (#obvi), and memes. Prior to having a baby and becoming a blog-from-home-mom, a large part of my career was spent in Event Marketing for non-profit organizations, so I’m always planning some sort of party. My favorite colors are black and white. Few things bring me more joy than crossing items off of my to-do list (#typeA), and writing and photography keep my creative juices flowing. Motherhood is by far my favorite job, not to mention, I have the best co-workers (#allthemoms).

Christmas Day, 2016

:: Babies & Beyond ::

On July 17, 2015, after forty one very long weeks of waiting, we welcomed a sweet, giggling baby boy into this world, and life hasn’t stood still since. Nicholas makes our days sunnier, our memories sweeter, and our floors messier, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Nicholas, 2016

Eddie and I have always loved to travel and explore, and though it might be a little bit more work to pack for a family of three, bringing our little adventurer along with us has made it all the more fun. At twenty months, Nicholas has been on 28 flights, visited five states, dipped his toes in the ocean, had his first boat ride in Lake Michigan, tried fried chicken in Nashville, eaten a beignet on Bourbon Street, strolled into town for breakfast at Toast, and squealed with delight on the swings at Shain Park right here in Downtown Birmingham.

I adore my sweet little family of three, and I cannot wait to get to know more about you and yours, too! Follow along with me on Instagram @lindsay.elyussif. xoxo
