Picture this: The fresh, warm air on your beautiful face. The hot sun beating down on you and the children running around in circles at the park laughing and playing. SPRING in Detroit. It’s coming, and after the winter we had, we are all ready to say buh-bye!
I wanted to learn more about the best way to step into new regimens this spring. With the help of local beauty advisors, Detroit Mom friends, and my own research, I am here to share with you the top five things to do for your beauty and skincare routines while transitioning from winter to spring. Check out my video discussing these tips here.
1. Spring Cleaning
This is the best time to go through all of your beauty and skincare products and do a clean sweep! Every beauty product has an expiration date. Look for the number and the letter M – that will be how many months the product is good for. Pitching out anything that hasn’t been used in six months or more is a good place to start. The best part is starting new for the spring season!
2. Exfoliate
Our skin has been layered with an excessive amount of lotion, clothing, and accessories to keep warm during these cold winter months. The experts say to exfoliate at least once or twice a week to get rid of our dead skin cells and unclog our pores. This will also bring out our skin’s natural skin and make it look more radiant. Yes, please! Just be careful not to over-exfoliate, because this will thin out our skin and do more damage with sun exposure.
3. Switch to a Lighter Moisturizer/Body Lotion
With the winter storms of 2022, and with everyone’s different lifestyles, using a heavy, cream-based lotion to quench our skin’s thirst for moisture was imperative! I love to use anything cocoa butter or shea butter. However, since our skin will produce more natural oils during the spring, this is the best time to switch to a light moisturizer or water-based moisturizer. This will also make our skin feel less sticky and sweaty while we are out and about with our babies!
4. Add Vitamin C into beauty and skincare routines
Just like our bodies need this very important vitamin, so does our face. Vitamin C serum will help reduce redness and any under eye circles. It also will naturally brighten your face and give you the “glow up” so you can “show up!” There are so many benefits using a Vitamin C serum. This will be part of my daily beauty and skincare routine for sure!
5. Turn up the SPF
I cannot wait until we get into the thick of summer, but let’s take one day at a time and make sure we protect our skin from sun damage as much as we do for our little ones. Grab a moisturizer with a higher SPF of at least 30-45. With my skin changing as I get older, I want to protect it from any new wrinkles, age spots, and, more serious: skin cancer. There are so many great products out there with different price points. Pick what is best for you!
Springtime in Metro Detroit is undoubtedly beautiful, so let’s start the season right by taking care of ourselves, so we can provide our children with the best! What are some things you do to prepare your beauty and skincare routines for the springtime?
