The city of Detroit has some well-kept secrets, and we think these unique water experiences are among them. Have you ever explored the city’s canals at sun up or moonrise? When you saw that party boat rolling down the river, did it make you wonder how to get on board? Did you know that some of the luxury yachts passing by actually offer daytime and evening cruises? We are ready to suit up and become a tourist in our own town with some of these amazing water experiences.
1. Kayak Tours
Explore the canals of the Detroit River or visit Belle Isle on a guided tour. Detroit River Sports and Detroit Outpost offer several different options for kayak tours in Detroit. There are various options available for these water experiences, depending on skill level, duration of tour, and time of tour. Everything from early morning to moonlight tours with lighted kayaks are available to book. Kids welcome!
2. Stand-up Paddle Boarding
Stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) has become one of our state’s most popular water experiences in the past several years. Located in St. Clair Shores, Great Lakes Surf provides lessons, rentals, and fun water activities for novice and elite riders. It’s a great workout, and you can visit some places only accessible by boat or SUP. You can also select a SUP prohibition tour of Detroit’s east side canals from Detroit River Sports.
3. Pedal Boats
Do you like exercise AND booze? Then the Detroit Cycle Boat is your jam. Hop on this self-propelled pedal boat with your friends, and you can see the downtown skyline in a whole new way. The boat leaves from Sinbad’s Restaurant in Detroit, and you pedal along the Detroit River. Bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy with your private group on the river. You can make this one family friendly, too, and bring the kids—all ages welcome!
4. Floating Tiki Bar
A tiki bar on the water? Yes, please! These tiki boats set sail out of Detroit and St. Clair Shores. Bring your own private group, beverages, and food, and your captain with Aloha Tiki Tours will take you cruisin’ on the water. Sit around the tiki boat bar while taking in the beautiful views. This chartered trip leaves from Sinbad’s Restaurant in Detroit or from the St. Clair Shores Public Dock behind Blossom Heath. Ages 12 and up.
5. Yacht Charters
