May is National Celiac Awareness Month, and in honor of that, we’ve gathered a list of our top 10 favorite gluten-free comfort foods. According to glutenfreeliving.com, eating a gluten-free (GF) diet “offers tremendous health benefits for those with gluten intolerance or celiac disease.” Mental health benefits, improved skin, and decreased bloating are just some of the advantages of going GF. Whether you’re gluten free because you have to be or because you choose to be, or even if you’re flirting with the idea of going GF, these comfort foods will make you forget you’re eating anything out of the ordinary.
1. Tyson Naturals Gluten-Free Breaded Chicken Breast Strips
Made with a rice flour breading, these chicken strips will have you thinking you ordered take-out from your favorite Coney Island. Throw them in the air fryer to take them to the next level.
2. Krusteaz Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies
I baked these and fed them to my husband (who isn’t GF) and he said they were the best cookies I’ve ever made. Undercook them just a tad for a deliciously gooey center.
3. Schär Gluten-Free Ciabatta Rolls
Gluten-free bread is my worst enemy, and a lot of people give up bread completely when going GF because the substitutes just don’t cut it. These ciabatta rolls are the exception.
4. Garden Lites Veggie Made Great Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins
You can find these muffins in the freezer aisle of most chain grocery stores. Pop them in the microwave for only 30 seconds for a quick snack. They go great with coffee, too.
5. Jones Certified Gluten-Free Chicken Meatballs
Easy to cook. Toddler-approved. Gluten free. Goes great with spaghetti squash or a fresh salad. What more do you need?!
6. OREO Double Stuf Gluten Free
Thank you, OREO, for making a GF option! They’re worth the hype, in my opinion. But I have to say I’ve tried both regular and Double Stuf, and Double Stuf is definitely the way to go.
7. McCormick Gluten-Free Chili Seasoning Mix
Chili is the ultimate comfort food. I swear this GF chili seasoning is better than the original. Do yourself a favor and buy two packets to make a double batch. You won’t regret it.
8. Bisquick Gluten-Free Pancake & Baking Mix
Pancakes and waffles are one of the best comfort foods, but there’s so much you can do with this baking mix. A quick Google search will turn up plenty of yummy recipes.
9. Siete Grain-Free Tortillas
A widely-known favorite, Siete produces a full line of GF products including almond flour tortillas, cassava flour tortillas, and chickpea flour tortillas so there’s plenty to choose from. You’ll also find these in the freezer aisle.
10. Gratify Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate Coated Twists
This brand offers a range of great products, too, but the chocolate + peanut butter combo on their pretzels is the ultimate sweet and salty snack. They can be hard to find, but I promise they’re worth the search.
