Introducing Organic Valley: Happy Cows Make Better Milk

0

As a child growing up in the 90s, milk was always a part of my daily routine. Promising bigger muscles and healthy bones, milk was a staple at almost every meal and was frequently used in recipes my mom used to make. Today, as a mom raising my own daughter, I know the importance of giving her high-quality milk as a part of her diet. Little did I know that not all milk is the same.

How is Organic Valley Different?

Organic Valley is a cooperative owned by organic farmers, which means they all work together to grow the food and run the business. They are truly committed to ethically made organic products for families everywhere. Beyond that, they use every single day to do what’s right for people, animals, and earth. This means providing economic stability for family farmers and rural communities. Building healthy soil, protecting the environment, and caring for their animals in a way that promotes their health and ours.

Happy Cows Make Better Milk

Organic Valley is committed to having the highest-quality animal care standards. Organic Valley cows are outside on pasture 50 percent more than the USDA organic standard requires. They go all out when caring for their cows, because that makes them happier and healthier. And that makes better milk you can feel good about serving your family. As a parent we know getting kids outside and away from devices makes them happy and healthy too!

Since Organic Valley cows spend more time outside, their diets are nutrient-rich and diverse with a wide variety of plants and grasses. It’s like a nutritious and delicious salad bar for cows! All the nutrients they get from a pasture-based diet not only helps keep them healthy and feeling good but also help make excellent quality milk. As parents, we know a healthy diet is a critical part of helping kids grow and feel their best. And, finding ways to ensure they are getting a well-balanced diet takes careful thought and planning.

Additionally, Organic Valley farmers work hard to create an environment where animals can freely express their natural behaviors – like grazing, roaming, and playing on pasture. As parents we know the benefits of play help children learn, grow, and thrive. Can’t you just see happy cows frolicking around in the pasture?

Finally, since Organic Valley is made of a cooperative of small family farms, they keep their herds small, which allows for a lot more time to care for the cows. The farmers care deeply about the care of their cows and know their personalities and quirks. It’s not uncommon for Organic Valley farmers to name their cows and call them by name, just like kids name their pets.
