Think fall is months away? Think again. Families are going back to school next month and that means fall sports are going to follow shortly after. After a summer of beach trips, sunscreen, and all things playing outside, we’re going to be trading in the flip flops for actual shoes soon. And this begs the question: have you secured a spot for your child to participate in their favorite fall sport once school is back in session?
Our kids keep us busy, and we know that back-to-school time can feel stressful enough. We need to find all of the school supplies, the perfect backpack, the best snacks, and so much more. Oh, and let’s not forget the waiting game of finding out who your child’s teacher will be. And, which of their besties are going to be in their class this year. It can be a lot! Which is why now, while we’re still in summer mode, we’re encouraging you to check one thing off your back-to-school to-do list: signing up for the fall season with NFL Flag.
We’ve worked with NFL Flag for a while now and we truly love their program. There are so many reasons why they shine, but don’t just take our word for it. Below, we’re sharing why local busy moms just like you love NFL Flag, and why we think you’ll love it, too!
1. Their no-contact policy keeps kids safe.
Overwhelmingly, one of the main reasons why moms in + around Detroit choose NFL Flag for their kids to learn the game is because of their no-contact policy. In fact, this is something that NFL Flag prides itself on. It’s something that we, as moms, totally stand behind: they’re no-contact and inclusive by design.
Not only does this mean kids stay safe, but they’re also learning without having to wear all of the heavy equipment. This means the whole environment is more approachable and friendly for kids to feel included. And, it’s a great way for kids to continue developing their football skills until they are ready for tackle!
“I chose NFL Flag because I loved their no-contact policy for my then six-year-old. He was able to learn the fundamentals of flag football without me worrying about him getting hurt.” -Fotini, a local Detroit Mom
“[I chose NFL Flag because] I did not feel comfortable with tackle football at this age (six and eight).” -Rachel, a local Detroit Mom
“Learning the principles of football without the stress and risks of tackling, especially at elementary age, has been great!” -Kristen, a local Detroit Mom
2. The practice + game schedule is pretty perfect.
We know that fall is busy. School during the day, homework in the evening, college and professional football on weekends. And not to mention playdates, trips around town, and everything else in between. So how in the world can you possibly fit in another fall sport?
Well, NFL Flag makes that really easy for you. Like, so easy! Your child’s team practices right before their game so you’re only driving out to the field once a week. Practice is for an hour, they play the game, and then you head home. (Or, head out for a bite to eat and to catch your favorite college team on TV, and then you head home!)
Practices and games are held in the following areas in + around Detroit: Ann Arbor/Saline, Beverly Hills, Brighton, Canton, Chesterfield, Clarkston, Dearborn, Farmington, Lake Orion, Livonia, Macomb, Northville/Novi, Rochester, Romeo, South Lyon, Southgate, Troy, Utica, Walled Lake/Huron Valley, and Warren.
“We loved the schedule of NFL Flag. Practices and games are held on the same day once per week which was perfect for our busy family.” -Katie, a local Detroit Mom
“The location is super convenient for our family as well as the schedule. We love [that] practices and games happen together, allowing flexibility in our family’s schedule.” -Kristen, a local Detroit Mom
3. Kids strengthen friendships from school + meet new friends at the same time.
One of the fun things about being back in school is getting to see friends you haven’t seen all summer. Well, what if your kids could see those friends on the weekend too and make new friends at the same time? That’s another thing local moms love about NFL Flag.
Many times, kids are playing in a league with friends from their school. But also, it’s a way to meet new friends who may go to other schools in your district or community. Either way, kids are learning about teamwork, sportsmanship, and how to be a true friend–on and off the field.
“[My child loved] meeting new friends, [and] learning to play the game safely!” -Rachael, a local Detroit Mom
“My son has been placed with many kids from his school and it has helped with bonds both as a team and as classmates.” -Kristen, a local Detroit Mom
4. The program is truly welcoming to ALL skill levels.
We know that the idea of playing football can be a little scary for some parents. What if my child gets hurt, knocked over, or run into? What if they don’t know the first thing about football? Or, what if they are nervous to play, but still want to try? NFL Flag has heard and seen it all. They’re incredibly equipped to work with any child, at any skill level, at any age!
Players are grouped into teams by age, not experience. Older kids who are new to the sport can jump in without feeling behind because they’ll be learning alongside peers. For kids who want to continue practicing their skills off the field, NFL Flag has resources for them, too, including YouTube videos to help with practices and the Mojo app to help with drills and practices. In this way every athlete, whether it’s their first season or their fifth, gets the chance to shine.
On the field, NFL Flag’s coaches focus on teaching the fundamentals of flag football, creating a supportive environment where new players can build skills and confidence from day one. Whether a child is learning how to throw a football or understanding game rules, the program emphasizes growth, encouragement, and fun over competition–especially for beginners.
” [We picked NFL Flag because it is] great for first time football players. [NFL Flag] gave opportunities for them to play all positions, [and] hands-on coaching during each play.” -Rachael, a local Detroit Mom
Unique Opportunities for Flag Football This Fall
NFL Flag has two other unique opportunities for playing flag football. One program is perfect for the littlest football players, and one is just for girls!
Touchdown for Tots
Touchdown for Tots is NFL Flag’s starter program specifically designed for first-year boys and girls ages 4-5 who aren’t quite ready for full league play yet. It’s a 6-week season for one hour each week where kids learn different skills and scrimmage against other Tots programs in the league. Perfect for a first-time player!
Females in Flag
Females in Flag is the largest all-girls flag football program and it’s located right in Romeo! Similar to the regular NFL Flag program, it’s recreational, no-contact, and perfect for beginners and experienced players alike.
NFL Flag is one of those programs that you simply have to experience. Their no-contact policy, stress-free schedule, friendship opportunities, and inclusive design is perfect for kids and one of the reasons why players and families return season after season to develop their skills and a love for the game!
