Listen, Miss Momma. This summer? It’s for us too. Yes, we’re running back and forth from sports practices and camp drop-offs to team snacks and weekend tournaments. We’re making sure everybody else is good. But let me remind you of something: this is your summer too. Not the next one, not when things slow down, not when everybody else is squared away. Right now.
So this is for you! It is your official Detroit Mom Summer Bucket List: part self-care, part fun, and 100% built around summer magic you deserve. Save it. Text it to the group chat. Write it down!! Most importantly: actually do the things.
Date Night Reimagined
Because you still deserve the fun nights, too! You don’t need a reason to treat yourself to a night out. And you definitely don’t need to wait for someone else to plan it. So let’s start by planning out your next date night! These spots are calling your name:
- Monarch Club Rooftop: For skyline views and a chic rooftop scene that never gets old.
- Paddle & Par: Indoor pickleball courts, golf simulators, brick oven pizza, espresso bar, and craft cocktails. You can play or just hang. No membership required, just a good time!
- SheWolf Pastificio & Bar: Handmade pasta and gorgeous energy. It’s giving “no kids, no stress, just vibes.”
-
Spritz Bar at San Morello: Rooftop seating, summer spritzes, and that low-key “I’m on vacation” feeling without leaving downtown.
Wellness + Me Time
Reset, recharge, and reclaim your summer, momma. And you don’t have to leave the state to reset, either. These are your soft life summer moments and they’re all in the area!
-
BASK Detroit: Cold plunge and sauna contrast therapy. It’s not just trendy—it actually works. You’ll feel renewed and clear, like someone hit “refresh” on your nervous system.
-
Community Yoga at Capitol Park with Citizen Yoga: Free yoga every Wednesday and Sunday at 6:00 p.m. from July 16 to August 31. All levels welcome, no pressure. Just flow.
-
Outdoor Yoga at Belle Isle, Campus Martius, or Downtown Detroit Parks: You, your mat, and fresh air. Add in a lavender towel and it’s basically a retreat.
-
Riverwalk + Dequindre Cut Walks: Plug in your favorite playlist or podcast, or just enjoy the quiet. These are easy, grounding resets you can fit in anytime.
Outdoor Adventures
Outside energy for moms who need fresh air and a break. These picks are perfect when you want to get outside and do something that doesn’t involve standing in line for snacks or cleaning up after kids.
- Bucket List Experience: Sunrise SUP sessions, paddleboard yoga, and calm lake vibes in St. Clair Shores. Grab a friend and go!
-
Detroit River Sports: Paddleboarding through canals and along the Detroit River. It’s peaceful and active and a total summer win.
-
Lake St. Clair Day Trip: Bring a towel, snacks, and a good book. You’ll feel like you traveled farther than you actually did.
-
Tecumseh Paddling Company: An hour away, but super serene. A great option for moms who want a solo mini-retreat with nature.
Quick Getaways
The mini trips that’ll feel like a full vacation; even a two- or three-day break can shift everything. These trips don’t require a passport or a packed itinerary—just you and a bag.
- Chicago: You already know. Restaurants, rooftop lounges, shopping, and city energy. Easy and always worth it!
-
Grand Haven or Saugatuck: Lake towns that give “Pinterest board” energy. Cute shops, beaches, and good food!
-
Toronto: Don’t sleep on this international getaway. While it is true that you need your passport to visit, trust me: it is definitely worth the drive! Here are a few of my favorite spots when visiting.
- Distillery District & Kensington Market: Murals, shopping, good drinks, and great photo ops!
- Grey Gardens: A chic wine bar for moms who love ambiance and elevated eats.
- High Park: Think Central Park, but quieter. Picnic, read, or walk among the gardens.
-
Rhum Corner: A lively Haitian Caribbean spot with cocktails and warmth in every bite and beat.
-
Toronto Islands & Harbourfront: Ferry out, breathe deep, and spend time on or near the water.
Family Fun
Okay, so you know I was not going to leave out the kids! These are for when the kids are with you, but you still want to enjoy the moment (and not just survive it).
-
Beacon Park Night Markets: Music, vendors, food trucks, and space for the kids to burn off energy while you relax.
-
Detroit Zoo After-Hours: Cooler temps, smaller crowds, and the same animals. Total win.
- Eastern Market Saturdays: Let the kids pick out flowers and fruit while you sip coffee and pretend it’s a European market morning.
Before I go, let me tell you what I know for sure: we spend so much of our time keeping everything and everyone else running smoothly. But summer is also your season to play, to rest, to glow up, to laugh until you cry, and to reconnect with your joy. Don’t let it pass you by.
Make the plan. Book the sitter. Say yes to your own magic. Summer 2025? You deserve it.
