Before I had kids, the gifts I received from my husband were pretty typical. Maybe there was a new bag I had my eye on, a pair of shoes, or of course, jewelry. But since becoming a mom, my needs and wants have shifted dramatically. I began to take a step back and reconsider what would truly bring me happiness.
Without fail, each time I’ve forced myself to do this, it has been an experience rather than a thing that comes to mind. Every mom has her own ideas of what best fills her cup and the right experience has the power to do just that.
So, let’s talk about the unique gifts women actually want this holiday season!
A Chance to Get Pampered
One of the best gifts my husband gave me was a membership program at my dermatologists office. It allowed me to get a hydra-facial every six to eight weeks for a year. It was so nice to know that several times throughout the year I’d get time to myself to relax while someone worked their magic to give me youthful, glowing skin.
Another option I love is a day at a salon or spa. Depending on who’s receiving the gift and what they’d enjoy, some options could be a manicure, pedicure, haircut, blowout, massage, or a combination of a few treatments.
A Day Away
My Christmas gift from my husband this year (and a few other years) is a trip to Walt Disney World. This year, I’ll go for a quick two nights with my niece where we’ll attend two different Christmas parties within the theme parks. My two favorite things are Disney and Christmas so this is the PERFECT gift for me.
But maybe for you, the perfect day away would be a trip to one of the casinos in Detroit for some gambling, drinks, great food, and a beautiful hotel room. If it’s something more outdoorsy that you’re looking for, maybe a trip up north to a cozy cabin or a beach trip to Whitehall would be options to consider!
A Day Off
I don’t always need to get away or open a fancy gift. Sometimes, I just don’t want to be responsible for ANYTHING. I don’t want to cook, clean, or plan. Now, that doesn’t mean I don’t want those things to get done–I just don’t want to be the one to do them. To have someone else come to my house and clean it top to bottom while I’m out to lunch with a friend or my family would be an absolute dream!
A Fit Mind + Body
This one is a little tricky. It’s probably not the kind of gift you could surprise someone with so if you’re the buyer, make sure this is what they want first. But if you’re trying to think of what to ask for this holiday season, this has been one of my favorite gifts because it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
I’ve been struggling to find time to workout so I recently asked my husband for a membership to a local gym with a great childcare facility. I’m able to get in a great workout while my son plays games and climbs through obstacle courses. I know that he’s having a great time, and I don’t have to arrange a sitter or plan my workouts around my husband’s work schedule. It’s a win-win!
Other gifts I’ve asked for were three months worth of appointments with a life coach and one-on-one time with a local holistic nutritionist that came with a custom diet and supplement regimen, plus weekly calls.
A Night of Entertainment
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that most moms don’t get out for a night on the town as often as they’d like to. That’s where this gift comes into play! Some of my favorite nights out with friends have been to get dinner and then see a comedian at a local venue. Another fun option is a Broadway-style show. My preference is always for the smaller, more intimate venues, but I know a lot of women who love the idea of large scale venues to see their favorite performer. So whether you’re asking or giving, make sure to keep those details in mind!
I know it’s easy with all the hustle and bustle of the season to resort to an old standby for Christmas gifts. This year, I’d encourage you to think outside the box. There are some amazing and unique gifts women actually want this holiday season–you just have to take the time to figure out the best one for you and yours!
