When you’re a working parent, how do you fit in date night with your partner? I am sure many of you, like myself, find it hard to sneak in a date night when you are a working parent and have little ones. My partner and I made it a point to try to have a date night in Ann Arbor this month. We LOVE fall and had not had a date night in about four to five months.Â
We live in Ypsilanti Township, so we decided to check out downtown Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is one of our favorite little towns to visit, but we have not had much time to explore without the kids since moving to this area one year ago. The art, the culture, the building architecture – it is all so beautiful to look at! Here’s how our date night in Ann Arbor went.
Start at Nickel’s Arcade
We decided to do a little walking around to see what we could find. Parking near Main Street is an easy option and then walking around from there is usually the best plan.
First stop was Nickel’s Arcade, a beautiful covered arcade that is perfect for a quick photo-op as well as a great coffee shop. There is also an amazing little treat store called Bon Bon Bon. We grabbed a Bon and continued on our walk.
Make Time for Photos!
After spending time at Nickel’s Arcade, we found a great mural by the one and only Kelsey Montague. Her wing murals all over the state. This one was close to the University of Michigan campus, so of course it was awesome to see the maize and blue colors represented.
Head to Dinner
Then, we headed to find somewhere great to eat. In Ann Arbor, there is no shortage of great and amazing food. We are still COVID-conscious, so we felt more comfortable finding a restaurant that had outdoor seating. There are so many options in Ann Arbor, and we settled on TAQ.
TAQ is an amazing Latin American and Mexican restaurant that offers gourmet street taco options. My partner cannot eat gluten or dairy, so it is always important to find places that have gluten-free and dairy-free options. TAQ did not let us down. The food was delicious and the drinks were on point.
Our last stop in Ann Arbor was recommended to us by our nanny: Le Bon Macaron. What’s better than ending the night with some delicious, authentic macarons? While appealing to the individuals with a gluten intolerance, they were a hit.
It was a great couple of hours out on the town exploring Ann Arbor and getting some one-on-one time with my partner. In our regular fashion, we were home by 10:00 p.m. and ready to wind down for the night.
It is so important in your relationship to make sure that you are making time to reconnect and get some time alone. Whether it is for one hour or five, it is important for the longevity of your relationship and for your self-health as well.
I am looking forward to seeing what adventure awaits us next. I hope that this gave you some ideas to get out on your next date night and explore around Ann Arbor!
