National Cocoa Day: The Best Local Hot Chocolate In + Around Detroit

You had me at CHOCOLATE! National Cocoa Day is today, December 13th. If it were up to chocolate lovers, however, National Cocoa Day would be every day. Today, we will celebrate the wonderful, smooth, deliciousness of a rich cup of HOT COCOA! There is definitely no shortage of local hot chocolate shops to visit in + around Detroit. Here are ten cute, family-friendly places to warm you and your loved ones up during this cold, cold Detroit winter.

Astoria Pastry Shop serves European pastries with a sip of smooth hot cocoa! Yes, please and thank you! Located on Main Street in Royal Oak or on Monroe Street in Greektown, you should also order a dozen of their assorted brunch pastries for your next “mom brunch” or holiday get together! Chocolate Bar Cafe | Grosse Pointe Woods

On the eastside, if you have never tried Detroit’s Alinosi Ice Cream, here is your chance.  The hot cocoa here has seven flavors! Pick your poison: from salted caramel, to mexican, to–’tis the season–candy cane!

This place is known for its friendly staff and service, and I agree! It’s stationed right on JOY Rd! Their warm greetings are perfectly paired with their hot cocoa. They also serve tasty soups and sandwiches that are easy on the wallet.

Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters | Detroit, Rochester, + Royal Oak

With three convenient locations for local hot chocolate, this place has metro Detroit covered! Heat up with their hot chocolate, but do not forget to try their cheesecakes! They have a gluten-free brownie on the menu, too. It’s chocolate heaven! This place has a great inspiring story. Music, cheesecakes, and coffee . . . check it out! Just Love Coffee Cafe | Shelby Township

Located in a busy Van Dyke plaza, this coffee shop IS its name! They welcome everyone and are kid-friendly. No paper to-go cups for you (unless you need it). The hot chocolate is definitely made with LOVE and lots of whipped cream! Order the white chocolate tiramisu coffee. You won’t regret it! Located at 49453 Van Dyke Ave., Shelby Township

Main’s Treat Coffeehouse | Romeo

The charming little town of Romeo will make you feel like you are in a Netflix Christmas movie! Grab that rich cup of hot chocolate with no whip or lots of whipped cream, and enjoy the atmosphere of this cute coffeehouse with free WiFi. On The Bay Customs Boutique & Cafe | New Baltimore

This place is a mom’s dream with food and shopping! The owners have traveled around the country to find unique items for this cute shop. Let’s get that list crossed off while you enjoy the yummy hot chocolate!

Although this charming place is located in a beach town, it doesn’t mean it’s closed for the season. If you’re not into hot, their frozen hot chocolate is delightful and delicious! They also have a full bar, so the kids can sip the hot chocolate and you can enjoy their coffee cocktails! Located at 51034 Washington St., New Baltimore

Randazzo Fresh Market | Clinton Township

The Randazzo Fresh Market Cafe serves a mean hot cocoa, and yes, as moms, we sip and shop! Two of their three locations have this oh-so-yummy cafe. The other location is in Macomb Township. Don’t worry if sometimes after grocery shopping, you don’t feel like cooking. Order their Italian wood burning oven pizza while you’re there–the kids will love it! Zoet | Rochester 

You say brunch, we say yes! Zoet offers all things Belgian. The word Zoet is a Dutch word for sweet. Their hot chocolate milk is definitely a must-try! However, also on the menu is the Biscoff caramel chocolate milk, which is to die for!

While you’re there, make sure to order the liege waffle, made with Biscoff ice cream and baked apple. Biscoff is popular in the Netherlands–it is a peanut butter-like spread that is oh-so-yummy! Located at 103 West 4th Street, Rochester
